The Black Bird Oracle

Description

Deborah Harkness first introduced the world to Diana Bishop, an Oxford scholar and witch, and vampire geneticist Matthew de Clermont in A Discovery of Witches. Drawn to each other despite long-standing taboos, these two otherworldly beings found themselves at the center of a battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782. Since then, they have fallen in love, traveled to Elizabethan England, dissolved the Covenant between the three species, and awoken the dark powers within Diana’s family line.

So happy to be back in the orbit of Diana and Matthew and all that entails. The fleshing out of Diana’s family, bringing old friends in and showing that the world is truly smaller than we think, even the spiritual one! This part has only just begun. I only hope this is just the beginning of next chapters of their world that we are invited into.

If you’re a fan of the All Souls Trilogy (this is now book five), you will love this book. The exploration of Diana’s Proctor family shows us where Diana received most of her gifts.
Well-written, The Black Bird Oracle shows us Diana’s true path and opens the door for us to watch her follow it. I couldn’t put it down and I’m waiting for the next one impatiently.

I loved the first three books of The Discovery of Witches, but I really didn’t like the fourth book at all. This book brought back all my favorite characters and Dianne and Matthews twins are just wonderful and full of life and passion. It was also fun to meet Dianne’s paternal relatives, ones she didn’t know she had, and really get to know some of them. And based on the ending, we have more books to come in this fabulous series. I highly recommend the book.

In preparation for this book, I slowly reread the previous books in the series. I promised myself I would pace myself, and read this new one a chapter at a time. That did not happen, it is just too good. Maybe the second time will be slower.
If you loved the beginning of the story, you will love the continuation, and hope that the next book is soon to come.

Every time I reread a book by Deborah Harkness, I discover something new that I missed the first time. So I cannot wait to read this book a second and third and fourth time. Original trilogy is one of my most treasured book series and I’m so glad she didn’t let Diana‘s journey stop there. The time and effort it must take to research and write these books is clearly evident to anyone who reads one. My only regret is that she can’t write them fast enough. Thrilled to say that this one ended on a wee bit of a cliffhanger so I am hopeful we will have more books from Harkness in our future.

Her writings are both enjoyable and entertaining. Love to read her books. Looking forward to many more. Just love it.
